January 2009 Studio News

Celebration Street will celebrate its 11th anniversary this spring! God has been so good to us over the years; we are excited to see what He has in store for us in 2009.

As we begin the New Year, we would like to share with you, the history and vision behind Celebration Street Christian School of the Performing Arts.

Our current Director Laura Ruiz founded Celebration Street in 1998. Our studio was birthed out of a sheer need, the need to provide parents and students with a non-compromising Christian alternative to quality dance instruction dedicated to the glory of the Lord.

We are a 501c3 non-profit charitable corporation governed by a Board of Directors; the daily operation of Celebration Street is run by Laura Ruiz, Director/Founder and Sasha Martinez, Administrator.

Our non-profit status has helped us over the years to make sure that all children have the chance to experience the arts, no matter their financial background.  With that in mind, as a non-profit organization Celebration Street relies on external support from individual and community partners as well as volunteers to help offset the daily cost of running a business.

If you would like more information on what our current need list is and how you can partner with us, please let us know.  Of course your gift or donation is tax-deductible and you will be provided with a receipt for your records.  We are excited that you have chosen to be a part of our dance family and look forward to continue working with your children as we prepare for our year end recital in June!

Important Items:

June Tuition – We wanted to give everyone a heads up and reminder over June tuition. As stated in the Student Parent Handbook, June tuition is due paid in advance with May tuition. June tuition may be made in payments as long as it’s paid in full on or before May 10th.   All accounts must be paid in full no later than May 10th, with all fees paid or dancers will not be eligible to dance in the June Showcase. If you have other payment arrangements made with the office in regards to your regular tuition, please see Sasha to make arrangements for your final payment due in May.  We will hold one week of dance classes after the recital – our last day of regular dance before we break for Summer will be Thursday June 18th.

Dress Code  Why a dress code? There is a reason for dress codes in any professional school. Proper dance attire enables both teacher and students to view the instrument, in this case the body, properly. This allows for corrections to be made, minimizing the potential for injury, and both student and teacher can work without distractions. Uniformity in a Ballet classroom develops a sense of unity and allows all focus to be on the work. Parents if you have questions regarding our dress code please ask, it is also in the Student/Parent Handbook. For students who are in Hip-Hop, Musical Theatre or Jazz classes, even though we have adopted a more relaxed dress code for these classes you are still expected to wear a leotard in class as well as the appropriate shoes. If you come to class with out the proper shoes, leotard, tights or having your hair pulled back, be prepared to sit out of class and watch. If you do not have a leotard or shoes, please see Sasha so we can help you find that right items for class.

Recital and Costumes – It’s time to start thinking about recital, it will be here before we know it!  Some costumes have begun to arrive, however they are not ready to go home with you yet.  We will try costumes on it class to make sure everything fits correctly; after they have been altered and packaged they will go home with you. Within the next month we will provide each family with a Recital Handbook, it will let you know what you can expect from your recital experience with us and give you a list of important dates such as rehearsals, picture and performance dates.  We will also be in need of many parent volunteers to help make sure the show runs as smoothly as possible.

Parents and Caregivers of Toddlers – Be on the lookout for more info to come soon on a Tot & Me dance class coming soon to Celebration Street . It’s going to be a great class for little ones ages walking - 2 ½ yrs. and their parent, grandparent or a caregiver.
